Okay gang, anyone up for a BBQ RTE?
I was thinking about making another run west to a highly recommended small town Texas "Q" joint. Our November run will take us over to
Zimmerhanzel’s BBQ in Smithville.
Our route will lead us west through Belleville, Fayetteville, La Grange and finally Smithville. We'll chow down on some “Q” then head back to the Houston area via Hwy. 90 through Shiner, Halletsville, Eagle Lake, and Wallis.
To make certain everyone is served (they close when they run out of food), we'll head out a little earlier than normal from the Firethorne Shell Service Station in Katy at 8:45 a.m.
Also, please bring cash as Zimmerhanzel's does not accept credit cards.
The following is an excerpt from the Texas Internet BBQ Blog:
“Zimmerhanzel's BBQ specializes in real wood smoked meat and homemade sides. All meat is smoked fresh daily over oak wood and all sides are made fresh daily. Zimmerhanzel's smoked meats include Zimmerhanzel's own homemade beef sausage, beef brisket, pork ribs, chicken and pork butt. Sides include potato salad, beans, cole slaw, macaroni salad and vanilla pudding (all homemade). Homemade pies and cakes along with chips, tea, sodas and pink lemonade are also available. Zimmerhanzel's sells meat by the pound, sandwiches and plate lunches (which include choice of meat, 3 sides, sauce, bread, pickle and onion). Average price of a meal is between $5-10.”
